A crewed gulet charter voyage

Türkiye — Carian & Lycian Coast charter itinerary

Bodrum to Göcek — 10 Nights

Scroll

Ten nights running the whole Turkish coast from Bodrum to Göcek: the Carian peninsulas and their boatbuilding villages first, then east past Dalyan to the Lycian shore as far as Kaş, before turning back into the pine-ringed islands of the Gulf of Göcek for the last two nights. Sixteen anchorages over around 230 miles. Four of the days are real passages of four hours or more and three are under two, and they alternate on purpose — the heaviest day is followed by the lightest, and the trip ends with three short ones.

Day 1

Bodrum — embarkation

Bodrum

Board in the afternoon beneath the floodlit Castle of St Peter, the bazaar and the waterfront a step from the quay. A first night alongside in Milta Marina, and an early start in the morning — tomorrow is the longest day of the trip.

Day 2

Knidos & Datça

Datca Peninsula · 39.2 nm · ~5h at 8 kn

The big day, and worth it. West to the very tip of the peninsula, where a ruined Greek city stands above two natural harbours — lunch at anchor, then the amphitheatre, the temples and a swim beneath the lighthouse. Back east in the afternoon to Datça for the night, with its twin bays and a harbour lined with cafes. Five hours under way all told, either side of a long stop, so it wants an early breakfast.

Day 3

Selimiye & Bozburun

Bozburun Peninsula · 23.9 nm · ~3h at 8 kn

A gentler day after yesterday. Late morning at Selimiye, a deep bay watched over by an Ottoman fort with a row of waterfront restaurants that draw boats from all along the gulf — anchor off for lunch and a swim. On to Bozburun for the night: the spiritual home of the Turkish gulet, with yards still turning out hulls along the shore.

Day 4

Serçe Limanı

Bozburun Peninsula · 6.9 nm · ~1h at 8 kn

An hour south, and no more asked of the day. A near-landlocked inlet entered through a hidden gap in the cliffs, ringed with pine and completely still — the site of the 11th-century Glass Wreck now in Bodrum, and one of the most sheltered overnight anchorages on this coast. Swim, read, and go nowhere.

Day 5

East to Ekincik

Köyceğiz & Dalyan · 31.7 nm · ~4h at 8 kn

A steady four hours east across the gulf to a broad pine-backed bay under the hills, with the afternoon and evening at anchor. Nothing ashore and nothing asked — the river starts early tomorrow.

Day 6

Kaunos & the Dalyan delta, then Ağa Limanı

Skopea Limanı · 21.5 nm · ~2.5h at 8 kn

River boats take over at the bar and thread the reed channels of the delta to Kaunos, a Carian city that later turned Lycian: a theatre cut into the hillside, a Roman bath and the acropolis above, with the rock tombs facing you from the cliff across the water — temple fronts cut for kings in the 4th century BC. Back down past the turtle beach at İztuzu, then a couple of hours under way into the Gulf of Fethiye. The night at Ağa Limanı, a wide quiet bay on its western shore, well away from any road.

Day 7

Kalkan

Lycian Coast: Kaş, Kekova, Kalkan · 36.8 nm · ~4.5h at 8 kn

The long run east along the Lycian shore, mountains falling straight into deep blue water the whole way and little reason to stop before the end of it. Kalkan climbs its hillside above a small harbour in whitewash and bougainvillea, with the best dinner terraces of the trip.

Day 8

Kaş

Lycian Coast: Kaş, Kekova, Kalkan · 12.7 nm · ~1.5h at 8 kn

Ninety minutes along the coast to the prettiest town on it — Lycian sarcophagi standing at street corners, the theatre of Antiphellos looking west over the water, a harbour full of small boats and Meis a mile offshore. A whole afternoon ashore, or take a local boat out to the sunken city at Kekova and back.

Day 9

Kelebekler Vadisi & Ölüdeniz

Lycian Coast: Ölüdeniz & Gemiler · 37.1 nm · ~4.5h at 8 kn

The last of the long days, turning back west with a stop beneath the sheer walls of Butterfly Valley — a gorge that opens on a single strip of beach reachable only from the sea, with a waterfall walk inland. On to Ölüdeniz for the night, anchored off Belcekız with Babadağ behind and paragliders coming off the mountain all evening; the lagoon itself is a protected park, so the night is spent on the seaward side.

Day 10

Gemiler, Tersane & Kleopatra Hamamı

Skopea Limanı · 17.4 nm · ~2h at 8 kn

Three short hops through the islands and the best day of the trip for it. Gemiler first, for the ruins of five Byzantine churches and the covered processional way climbing to the summit, best walked early; then lunch at anchor off Tersane Adası, with its deserted Greek village and old shipyard sheds. The last night at Kleopatra Hamamı, moored over the submerged walls of a Roman bath house you can swim down to and stand in.

Day 11

Göcek — disembarkation

Göcek · 5.5 nm · ~0.5h at 8 kn

Half an hour into Göcek and alongside at Club Marina. Breakfast on board, then the coffee houses and plane trees of the village before the transfer.
